Background

SAP's B2B data analytics tool to identify anomalies

Continuous Intelligence is a SAP's B2B data analytics tool to monitor data for anomalies.

The platform helps to identify the root cause and respond faster to such hidden events and changing trends.

Our users, data analysts

The product’s primary users are data analysts whose job is to discover vital anomalies in a short time.

Because our users' work is time-sensitive, it was necessary to notify users with an adequate and consumable amount of notifications.

Summary

After the alpha release, Continuous Intelligence got user feedback. Our team started to redesign the platform to address users' pain points. Read the full case study (Password required) →

How can we help users discover important anomalies quickly?

Discovering anomalies in a short time mattered because they influenced the company's business decision-making and marketing strategy.

However, the users struggled to quickly find vital anomalies due to the number of false-positive anomalies.

Researches and usability testing for an effective design process

Our team conducted interviews with customers to learn their pain points and needs. I supported our team's UX researcher by notetaking and analyzing the interview results.

The interviews indicated that users need a filtering feature and intuitive navigation to quickly discover vital anomalies from false positives.

We started a design iteration, focusing on how to display the anomaly alerts and allow users to sort them quickly.

We conducted usability testing with customers and iterated designs based on feedback.

Collaboration with developers, PMs, and UX designers/researchers

I worked with senior UX designers to design low to high-fidelity screens. We worked on the same file or distributed the tasks depending on the scope.

I met a developer and a PM weekly to discuss each week's design process.

I also communicated with the UX researcher to prepare the research.

Other stakeholders were involved in this collaborative process.

My responsibilities to rebuild the navigation and redesign the platform

My key responsibilities were restructuring and prototyping the website’s navigation.

My prototype has been used for various customer demos and presentations, including SAP NOW.

Reflection

Iteration with a purpose

Iteration is good, but iteration without purpose is bad. I realized the word ‘why’ enormously matters in shipping the real project, especially in creating B2B products that involve specific knowledge.

Thinking about the reason for working on each screen has enabled me to be curious and get a profound insight into each screen.
